Background
Probably the most scenic 10k I have ever done.
Jane Newman, a well known local runner and professional physiotherapist, had the idea of establishing a charity run in the beautiful settings of River Otter a long time ago. The seed may well have been sown on the first walk down the river with her grandfather before her legs could run on their own. Since that first 'potter down the Otter' she has walked, run and jogged in the area more times than she can remember.
In 2005 her idea became a reality and the Jurassic Coast 10k was born.
The event is not for profit and all money raised after costs is donated to FORCE Cancer Charity, a wonderful local charity that has played a vital role in local cancer services for over 20 years.
JC10k has grown year on year in popularity and the JC10k team are very proud of its success. The special nature of the event means that runners from all ages and runners of all standards enter.
In 2005 we had just over 100 runners, in 2009 the run reached capacity so we would recommend getting your entry forms in early to avoid disapointment. Applications will not be accepted on the day! Complete the entry form here.
The course offers something for everyone, but perhaps not a best shot at a personal best... Not only are there "tough climbs and descents" (or 'challenging climbs' as Jane puts it), but there are beautiful stretches along river and coastal paths where runners can take in the fantastic views and landscape of the Jurassic Coast.
The team behind the run are all volunteers. On race day the team grows to include a large number of additional volunteer helpers with responsibilites ranging from cooking perfect burgers to marshalling the course to handing out medals. If you would like help please have a look at our volunteer page.
This background makes for a very fun and friendly day which everyone enjoys.
Jane lives and works in Devon and has been a Physiotherapist to the English Institute of Sport (EIS) since 2005 and has been the lead Physiotherapist at many international events for the England Athletic Team. In 2009 she set up Peak Physio which is based at SMP Pilates at Darts Farm, Topsham, Devon.
